Covid-19: 106 para athletes, OKU receive assistance

PETALING JAYA, Aug 14 — A total of 106 persons with disabilities (OKU) including para athletes affected by the impact of Covid-19 received donations today in the form of basic necessities and grocery vouchers.

The initiative, organised by the Selangor Para Athletics Association in collaboration with Klang Kiwanis Club, kEATchen and Selangor Boccia Association, was aimed at alleviating the burden of PwD during these challenging times.

OKU Sentral president Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, who was invited to hand over the donations, expressed her appreciation for the noble effort.

Ras Adiba said not all persons with disabilities, especially former national athletes, were registered under existing aid programmes, and thus it is important for all parties to work together to ensure no one is left out.

“This is the time for us to work together to help our (OKU) friends, both athletes and non-athletes, as they are now unemployed during this difficult time,” she told Bernama after presenting the donations.

The event, which was held at the Selangor Boccia Association premises, was attended by Klang Kiwanis Club president Rodney Rash Leo and kEATchen chief overeating officer Ivan Chan.
