SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — The raw water pumping project involving the Hybrid Off River Augmentation Storage (Horas) 600 is scheduled to kick off in September, which is a part of four other projects executed by the state government to tackle the water pollution issue in the state.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said the appointment of contractor for the raw water channelling project is currently underway, which will involve four work packages. He said the project is also expected to complete by the end of 2022.

“The packages include supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the Archimedean screw pump system and at the Horas 600 ponds in Kampong Sungai Darah, Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor as well as the water intake of Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Kuala Selangor.

“The process includes constructing river diversion at the water intakes of SSP 1, 2 and 3 WTP in Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor and Sungai Semenyih WTP in Jenderam Hilir,” Izham told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, today.

On October 30 last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had announced a RM200 million allocation in the 2021 Selangor Budget to carry out four measures towards solving issues relating to raw water pollution in the state.

Apart from the project to channel raw water from Horas 600 into Sungai Selangor and Sungai Semenyih, other measures include a pilot project to biologically treat and restore the quality of Sungai Gong’s water, increasing water quality telemetry systems at high-risk water intake areas for early detection of pollutants and the 24-hour surveillance and monitoring of sensitive water source areas via Skuad Pantas.
