SIBS 2021 moved to November due to Covid-19

SHAH ALAM, Aug 16 — The Selangor International Business Summit 2021 (SIBS 2021), which was set to kick-off in October, has been rescheduled to be held from November 18 to 21 due to Malaysia’s current Covid-19 situation, said Invest Selangor Berhad in a statement today.

The state government agency said the annual event would be held in a hybrid mode. It will be held physically at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, and virtually on the www.selangorbusinesshub.my portal.

The event themed ‘Restore Tomorrow, Today’, which was initially scheduled to be held from October 7 to 10, is expected to garner 840 exhibitors and attract 15,000 visitors from 24 countries.

“It is hoped that with the vaccination push under “Operation Surge Capacity” and the state government’s Selvax (Selangor Vaccination Programme) initiative, the pandemic situation will have improved by November and will give trade visitors and participants more confidence to visit the exhibitions and conduct business through SIBS 2021.

“Of course, the event will be held in strict compliance with the safety guidelines provided by the Health Ministry (MOH).

“November will be another busy month for Invest Selangor as we are set to host two significant trade-related events. We look forward to meeting all trade visitors and participants,” Invest Selangor said in the statement.

It stated that the four-day event would host a record of six main event components, namely the Selangor International Expo (F&B), Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC), Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) and the Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo (SRIE).

Two new events will be included, which are the Selangor International Expo (Medic) and Selangor Industrial Park Expo (Spark).

Aside from the main events, Invest Selangor said that several business conferences and networking activities would also be held, including the Malaysia China Entrepreneurs Conference, Selangor International Culinary Festival, and Selangor International Healthcare Conference.

“Participants can access a rich selection of on-demand content, do digital networking through an interactive user chat interface, meet virtually with potential partners through its B2B business-matching feature, and so much more.

“The decision to hold SIBS 2021 as a hybrid event is to enable businesses to build connections with stakeholders worldwide despite travel restrictions due to the pandemic,” the statement read.
