KUALA SELANGOR, Sept 19 – A total of 10,000 teenagers aged 16 and 17 are targeted to receive vaccinations at the vaccination centre (PPV) for adolescents in the Stadium Tertutup Kompleks Sukan Kuala Selangor.

Selangor Covid-19 Special Immunisation Task Force chairman Mohd Faizal Abdul Raji said a total of 8,268 teens had been vaccinated from September 23 until yesterday.

“Based on the number of previous recipients and those present today, we hope to get 10,000 teenagers vaccinated in Kuala Selangor,” he said here today.

Mohd Faizal, who is also the Kuala Selangor district officer, said a total of 1,500 doses are provided daily, with the second dose set to be administered on October 14.

Remarking on adolescents who did not come despite having registered, he opined they may have personal reasons, including being anti-vaxxers.

“The absentees could have their own reason, maybe their parents took them to another vaccination centre, while some may be against the vaccine,” he said.

On September 20 the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced its target to fully vaccinate 80 per cent of teenagers before the school session opens next year.

Its minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the MOH is also targeting 60 per cent of teenagers aged 12 to 17 to get at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by November.
