MB wishes Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

SHAH ALAM, Sept 21 — Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari wished the Chinese community a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival in the state.

He also extended his wishes of a safe trip for all who travel back to their family homes for the celebration.

“Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival which is celebrated by the Chinese community in the country.

“On behalf of the Selangor State Government, I offer our best wishes to everyone celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival and hope everyone can return home to celebrate with their loved ones soon,” he said in a post on Facebook today.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Cake Festival, is an important festival for the Chinese community.

It involves buying mooncakes as gifts, while some even enjoy mooncakes in the month leading up to the festival itself.

Celebrated in China and other Asian countries, it’s more than 3,000 years old and dates back to when the Chinese emperors worshipped the moon, praying for a bountiful harvest.
