Covid-19: Sports enthusiasts advised to continue complying with SOPs to avoid new clusters

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 — Members of the public, especially sports enthusiasts and participants, are advised to continue complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) stipulated under the National Recovery Plan (PPN) so as to avoid the emergence of new clusters.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said all parties, comprising individuals carrying out activities and premises owners should always be alert considering the country has yet to win its war against the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that to avoid the emergence of new clusters resulting from sports activities, all parties should carry out their responsibilities and roles properly or be prepared to face the consequences.

“We definitely have to be careful because we are not there yet in terms of tackling the pandemic. We still have challenges ahead. So, the public must take note of this and be more responsible and follow the SOPs.

“If possible, we do not want any clusters resulting from sports activities so that all sports activities can continue to be activated. If there is a cluster, it will be a problem,” he said after launching the reopening of the Kiara Skatepark at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Kiara here today.

Yesterday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-Naught) had risen to 1.0, thus may be an early sign that positive cases will increase.

He said the Rt value of 1.0 also indicated that the cases would not drop but remain flat.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, when announcing the same matter via a posting on his Twitter account yesterday, also urged individuals who have received their vaccine booster appointment dates to show up for their jabs.
