KPS programme trains independent caregivers impacted by Covid-19

SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Bhd (KPS) Caregivers Programme has succeeded in providing elderly care training to independent caregivers who were impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

KPS in a statement said the KPS Caregivers Programme funded by them, focused on the fulfilment of the special needs and requirements that are unique to senior citizens.

“This broad term encompasses services such as assisted living, adult day-care, long-term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and home care. Hence, the importance of having independent caregivers that can assist the elderly that need this special care.

“KPS Caregivers Programme certainly helped in giving more exposure on the elderly care for the candidates that have interest in the elderly care,” the statement said.

The KPS Caregivers Programme also focused on equipping the candidates with the working knowledge needed and improving the skill set needed to become independent caregivers.

“This will lead the candidates to be employable in the market with knowledge and skill set trained to improve their socioeconomic status as caregivers,” it said.

The programme was done in a hybrid model which is a combination of the digital platform for theory class and physical training that was done at the patient’s house in order to give the candidates hands-on training to put more confidence in the candidates to take care of the elderly and was done by following the standard operating procedure in Covid-19 situations.

Forty candidates have managed to graduate from the programme so far and due to the Covid-19 situation, online or e-graduation was held to celebrate them.

With the knowledge that was imparted to the 40 candidates, they are now able to work as independent caregivers, earn more than RM 1,000 on monthly basis and improve their socioeconomic status in line with the KPS Entrepreneurship Development Programmes objectives to address the unemployment issue by encouraging candidates to raise their confidence levels for either starting small-scale businesses or improving their competitive edge.

Meanwhile, Cality Care Malaysia director Hizlan Hasanuddin in the same statement said they thanked KPS for funding and giving continuous support to Cality Care Malaysia to organise the training under the KPS Entrepreneurship Development Programme.

He said this was also in line with their commitment to ensuring the youth are well supported in the knowledge that is able to make them young entrepreneurs in the community.

“This programme would not have been a success without the help of KPS in funding this programme,” he said.
