Selangor to make affordable housing a reality

By Nasuha Badrul Huzaini

SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — The state government will soon launch a housing project via one of its government-linked companies (GLCs), consisting of 2,000 affordable homes and 1,400 market-price homes, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd, through its affiliate company Landasan Lumayan Berjaya Sdn Bhd, will construct the homes along the Sungai Klang at a gross development value (GDV) of RM1 billion.

The houses measure 900 square feet and consist of 3+2 bedrooms and four bathrooms. They are also equipped with a dual-key concept.

“The homeowner can choose to rent out any of their unused bedrooms, to generate extra income. This will also indirectly help the B40 and M40 groups as they face increasing living costs, particularly in the urban areas,” Amirudin told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly when tabling the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022) here, today.

He added that the state government had identified 600 acres of land spanning 56 kilometres along the Klang River, which will be developed within the next eight to 10 years.

“By 2030, a total of 26,000 houses will be built along the Klang River’s coastal area. Of this figure, 50 per cent or 13,000 units will be affordable homes.

“The sustainable project developed under the Selangor Maritime Gateway does not only focus on the economy and environmental aspects but also emphasises on the livability and the comfort of the people, especially from B40 and M40 groups,” Amirudin said.
