#Selangor2022 to offer free health screenings next year

By Alang Bendahara

SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — The people of Selangor can look forward to getting free medical checkups next year through the Selangor Screening Programme, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Announced in the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022), the free screening programme will help individuals identify their health risks so that they can be addressed early.

“Looking at the high number of Covid-19 infections among those with a history of disease or comorbidities, the state government recognises the importance for people to undergo regular medical checkups.

“This will ensure that any disease can be detected at an early stage so that early treatment can be carried out,” Amirudin said during the budget’s tabling at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here, today.

To this end, the Selangor Screening Programme will be implemented in 2022 with a RM1.5 million allocation.

“The program will be comprehensively implemented on the community level, and is expected to benefit up to 5,000 people,” Amirudin said.

The Menteri Besar also announced the continuation of the Bantuan Sihat Selangor (BSS) programme.

“The Bantuan Sihat Selangor (BSS), first introduced in 2009, will be continued with a RM5 million allocation for 2022 and will benefit up to 4,000 qualified recipients.

“BSS will also be expanded to provide assistance to patients with thalassemia, cancer, and other chronic diseases, as well as assistance for transportation expenses and supplements,” he said.

The programme will also maintain existing assistance, including kidney dialysis, eye cataract surgeries, other minor surgeries and medical equipment assistance.

Amirudin added that the state government will also consider applications for visits by medical officers to the homes of disabled patients or to homeless persons under the BSS programme.
