KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — The Selangor Research & Development and Innovation Expo (SRIE) is an initiative organised by the state government to make Selangor a smart and caring state, said the Menteri Besar.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the expo was specially organised to bring together important elements and develop an advanced technology ecosystem in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0), which is becoming increasingly important in the global market.

“SRIE 2021 is an important initiative for the state government, in line with the vision and mission in making Selangor a “Smart and Caring” state, as well as sustaining the development and prosperity of a symmetric, smart, and caring people.

“The state government would like to express its commitment to the continuation of SRIE in the coming years, hoping it will become a gathering place for advanced technology experts, and an event awaited by world technologists in the coming future,” he said during SRIE 2021’s closing ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here yesterday.

Amirudin’s speech was delivered by Selangor Investment, Industry and Trade, Small and Medium Industries Committee chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim on his behalf, as the Menteri Besar was unable to attend the ceremony due to being away on official business.

Amirudin said SRIE 2021 had showcased over 70 companies in over 100 booths, covering various sectors including innovation, electrical and electronics, services, life science, machinery and equipment, transportation equipment, food and beverage, as well as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“The exhibitions and business networking activities were brought together to identify and open up more opportunities for these technology companies to get matched with business partners, investors, government agencies, or with other companies so that the research and development (R&D) community can grow organically after this expo has ended.

“Networking is very important in forming a rich value chain with various companies and skilled workforce in the IR 4.0 multi-discipline industry, including in the aspects of product and process design, smart manufacturing, as well as data-based support services and digital technology,” he said.

SRIE 2021 was held in conjunction with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2021 that was held from November 18 till yesterday in a hybrid manner.

RM11 million was allocated for SIBS, which covered the development and maintenance of business portals, as well as marketing and development for nine major events.
