284 routes in Selangor affected by floods, 27 roads closed

SHAH ALAM, Dec 25 — A total of 284 federal and state roads in Selangor were affected by the floods incident last week.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said of the total, 11 federal roads in Petaling, Gombak, Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor, Sepang, Hulu Langat and Hulu Selangor were closed.

“Meanwhile, 16 state roads in Kuala Selangor, Sepang, Hulu Langat and Sabak Bernam remain closed as of yesterday,” he said in a statement.

Izham said 38 slopes and landslide cases were reported in five regions under the purview of local councils namely the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Selayang Municipal Council (MPS), Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), and Klang Municipal Council (MPK).

He added that seven out of the total are at critical level. 

The critical cases are:

  1. Taman Nusa, Subang (MBSA)
  2. Apartment Teratai, Selayang (MPS)
  3. Jalan Bunga Anggerik, Taman Dataran Ukay (MPAJ)
  4. Jalan Melati 7, Taman Seri Melati (MPS)
  5. Kampung Sepakat, Batu 16, Rawang (MPS)
  6. Jalan Haji Abdul Latif, Kampung Bukit Kapar (MPK)
  7. Jalan 45B, Bukit D, Kampung Cheras Baru (MPAJ)

Status of the drainage and irrigation system:

  1. Sungai Langat (Bukit Changgang) Station and Sungai Buloh Station – downward trend
  2. Sungai Langat Station (TNB Pangsun) – flat trend

Dams:

  1. Status — 100 per cent under control
  2. Downward trend — Batu, Semenyih, Klang Gates, Tasik Subang and Sungai Tinggi dams
  3. Safe level — Empangan Langat, Sungai Selangor dams and Sungai Labu Reservoir Pond
  4. Water discharge — Batu and Klang Gates dams

Telecommunication (342 towers affected):

  1. 177 towers — fully operate
  2. 165 towers — repairing stages
  3. Most affected areas — Klang (53), Petaling (52) and Sepang (28).

Electricity supply (1,407 substations affected):

  1. Repair works in progress — 147 (89 in Shah Alam, 31 in Sepang)
  2. Recover using genset — 30 locations
  3. Recover using normal grid — three locations
