English Premier League reports 90 new Covid-19 cases

ANKARA, Dec 21 — The English Premier League announced Monday that a record 90 players and staff tested positive for Covid-19 in the past week.

“The League can today confirm that between Monday December 13 and Sunday December 19, a record 12,345 Covid-19 tests were administered on players and club staff. Of these, there were 90 new positive cases,” it said on its website as reported by Anadolu Agency (AA).

The latest figure was more than double the tally from testing results for December 6-12, when the league said 42 people tested positive.

The Premier League recently reverted to emergency Covid-19 measures, including protocols such as more frequent testing, wearing face coverings while indoors and observing social distancing after the recent rise in infections across the country.
