MB: Each flood victim family to get cooking stove, gas cylinder

By Alang Bendahara

SHAH ALAM, Dec 17 — The state government will provide a gas cooking stove and gas cylinder to all families of flood victims, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said this will come from the Ikhtiar Selangor Bangkit Fund, and from corporate companies.

“We will provide the families affected by the floods with gas cooking stoves and gas cylinders, as these are basic needs of continuing with their lives.

“This will be implemented together with the donation from Selangor Bangkit and other contributions,” Amirudin said during a press conference on the floods situation at the Selangor State Government Building here today.

He said earlier today the state received 1,000 gas stoves which were contributed by MRCB Corporation, to be distributed to flood victims.

“We also welcome any form of contributions either in monetary form or items from all corporate companies,” he said.

During the Q&A, Amirudin said they will focus on solving the basic needs of flood victims first, before announcing aid for other sectors affected by the floods.

“Our priority is to solve the basic matters first, we need to finish up cleaning and give out aid that I believe will provide temporary relief before we explore or help the other sectors such as agriculture and entrepreneurship.

“I believe there will be support for the other sectors, and once it is there we will announce it. It is all but certain, but I have yet to announce it,” he said.

Amirudin added all contributions and aid announced for the flood victims are scheduled for completion by the end of January 2022.

He said last week’s floods affected more than 40,000 individuals in the state.

The extraordinary rain from December 17 to 19 was double the previous highest rainfall average of 180mm, resulting in many places in Selangor becoming submerged in water.
