Shah Alam Stadium will not be demolished

SHAH ALAM, Dec 3 — The state government has rejected the allegations by certain quarters of the supposed plans to demolish the Shah Alam Stadium in Section 13.

State executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said at present, no proposal paper has been brought to the State Executive Council (MMKN) to implement the matter.

“There are a lot of rumours, some said it will be demolished, some said build first then demolish. But I can confidently inform the Opposition leader, that until today there is not a single paper included in the MMKN related to the demolition of the Shah Alam Stadium,” he said.

Mohd Khairuddin was responding to a query by Opposition leader Datuk Rizam Ismail, when winding up the debate on the 2022 Selangor Budget 2022 at the Selangor State Assembly yesterday.

He said the Special Project Unit (UPK) was established to conduct a study and present its findings to the state government on how to best repair the stadium.

“The UPK was established on June 9, 2021, and is expected to present its suggestions and feedback in the near future,” he said.

On August 21, the Menteri Besar said the Shah Alam Stadium will have a new look by upgrading the entire complex starting next year.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the process was included in the proposed redevelopment of the surrounding area undertaken by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah.

The cost of repairing the stadium, which first opened in 1994, is expected to reach RM350 million, based on the Public Works Department’s assessment.
