SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 — Selangor government has allocated RM114.6 million in a five-year plan to reset the state tourism sector which was badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari the allocation was recently announced in the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022) that he had tabled in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.
“The 2022 Selangor Budget which was recently-announced focuses on achieving a comprehensive recovery of the state, including its tourism industry. The tourism sector is one of the industries severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Several initiatives have been identified to stimulate the tourism industry with an estimated allocation of RM 114.6 million for the year of 2021-2025 involving all industrial sectors in the state of Selangor that includes;
“Recovery Assistance Grant for Industry Players; Strengthening Selangor’s Tourism Promotional Campaigns (Pusing Selangor Dulu and Splendid Selangor Campaigns); Preparation and Implementation of Tourism’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) with the aim to establish Selangor as a safe State to travel to; Organisation of Tourism Selangor Global Convention 2022; and Tourism Infrastructure Development,” he said.
Amirudin said this in his opening speech of Tourism Selangor Global Convention 2021 (TSGC 2021) in Petaling Jaya today.
He said the revitalisation of the tourism industry is a move to awaken one of the state’s major economical contributors, which is making its comeback after a challenging period of two years.
Previously in June, he had announced a total allocation of RM2.55 million under the Kita Selangor 2.0 Package to stimulate the state’s tourism industry.
The allocation was channelled through four categories which are: Grant incentive programme / Selangor’s tourism promotional activities; Selangor’s Tourism Vouchers 2.0; Selangor’s Tourism Digitalisation Training Programme; and “One-Off” Incentive to 17 Tourism Associations in Selangor.
Amirudin said all the initiatives implemented by the state government are crucial in establishing Selangor as the preferred and premier travel destination in the country.
However, he said all players in the tourism industry should also continue introducing attractive and unique attractions and packages to attract tourists and boost the tourism economy.
TSGC 2021 hybrid event, which takes place today and tomorrow at the New World Petaling Jaya Hotel, will feature speakers who will share their thoughts on the future of tourism.
Participation in TSGC 2021 is by invitation only, but the event will be live-streamed and the public can access it on www.tsglobalconvention.com.
