Teng: Selangor must look beyond horizon to remain nation’s economic powerhouse

SHAH ALAM, Dec 2 — A total of 324 manufacturing projects with an investment value of RM18.43 billion had already been approved by the Selangor state government, at the time the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020.

State executive councillor for trade and investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said 93 per cent of these projects had thus far been implemented, while seven per cent is still either in the planning stages, factory development, or the installation of machines and tools.

“The state government has done its best to attract investment by not only doing what other states are doing but also doing what other states are not doing or cannot afford to do, which is to build on Selangor’s strengths and promote the state to the outside world,” he said.

Teng made the remarks during his winding-up address of the debate on the 2022 Selangor Budget, at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

He added that Selangor status as Malaysia’s economic powerhouse meant it had to look beyond the country to expand its economy.

“Selangor not only compares Selangor’s competitiveness with the states in Malaysia but also compares itself with other countries in the Southeast Asian region as a whole.

“Therefore, Selangor has set a target to make the state a global trading hub, based on its position and strength as the gateway to the Asean region,” he said.
