PETALING JAYA, Jan 11 — The distribution of the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) RM1,000 cash aid to flood victims and their families is expected to be completed in February, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said as of yesterday more than 25,000 heads of households have received the assistance, involving an expenditure of over RM25 million.

At the same time, the authorities are aggressively registering flood victims who did not move to temporary evacuation centres (PPS) for the BSB aid.

“We expect the recipients to be more than 30,000 families, based on the initial target.

“Perhaps the distribution can be completed by February, after which the state government will start other programmes including Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (Bingkas) and repairing flood victims’ houses,” Amirudin said.

He said this after visiting the next of kin of Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) staff Mohd Ikram Bakri, who died while helping to clean a house affected by the floods on January 5.

On December 21 last year, the state government allocated RM100 million in funds under the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit initiative, due to the recent heavy floods caused by heavy continuous rain from December 17 to December 19.

Apart from infrastructural recovery, the initiative also covers RM10,000 cash aid to the families of flood victims who perished in the incident. RM1,000 cash aid will also be provided to the heads of flood victims’ families, to help them restore their homes and cover damages.

Individuals who qualify for the aid include three categories; flood victims who were moved to temporary relief centres, those who moved to private locations, as well as those who chose to remain with their homes.
