SHAH ALAM, Jan 1 — The Selangor government is ready for the possibility of a second wave of floods, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said the matter was raised during the Disaster Management Committee meeting held yesterday.

“We learnt our lesson from what had happened and we are prepared. Additional assets will be provided for future preparations in the event of such floods.

“Support and assistance to other sectors such as education institutions, mosques, suraus, businesses and agriculture were also discussed at the State Executive Council meeting. However, we are currently focusing on the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) initiative,” said Amirudin when met at a religious event ushering in the New Year at the Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here, last night.

He said to date, more than 3,000 flood victims are recipients of the state initiative.

“Assistance through BSB is being actively distributed in every district and we are confident that it would reach all recipients by the end of January,” he said.

On December 21, the Selangor government announced a total allocation of RM100 million in funds under the Selangor Bangkit initiative, following major flooding in the state in mid-December.

Apart from infrastructural recovery, the initiative also includes RM10,000 in aid to the next of kin of those who have perished.

A RM1,000 cash aid will be distributed to the heads of families to help restore their homes. This initiative will benefit some 30,000 families hit by the floods.
