Selangor free tuition programme targets 60,000 students, offers over 80 learning videos

SHAH ALAM, Jan 11 — The state government targets 60,000 Form Five and Year Six students across Selangor to receive benefits through the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS) this year.

The Selangor State Education Standing Committee informed that 50,000 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates and 10,000 Year Six students will attend the virtual and face-to-face classes apart from getting free learning modules.

The committee said that 10,000 SPM candidates from low-income families who need guidance from teachers will receive the benefits of the tuition classes along with learning modules, while 20,000 students in the same category but able to study on their own will receive learning modules.

“While another 20,000 students will use the online learning method through the ePTRS.my portal which contains learning videos and learning module books in PDF format.

“Meanwhile, an estimated 10,000 Year Six students will receive the benefits of learning module books to strengthen their mastery of subjects at the primary level,” said the committee to Selangorkini recently.

It also informed that improvements were made to the ePTRS.my portal this year included uploaded videos for learning pure science subjects such as additional mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry as well as Islamic and moral education.

Previously, the portal contained 81 learning videos covering core subjects, namely Malay and English languages, history, science and mathematics.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari when tabling the Selangor Budget 2022 on November 26 last year, announced an allocation of RM7 million to continue the PTRS this year.

He said it was to strengthen the content of the ePTRS.my portal and strengthen teachers’ skills.
