SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — Comprehensive measures to tackle flood issue in Selangor involving works related to pond, drainage and water release location will be among the focus during the upcoming state executive councillors retreat this month.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said three main components would be included in the long term action plan in ensuring the flood incident does not reoccur.

“The Menteri Besar has asked me to present a comprehensive solution including on water resources. We get input from various parties so that no one will be left behind in finding the right solution.

“Among the agencies involved including the Drainage and Irrigation Department, the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas), the Mineral and Geoscience Department, Landasan Lumayan which manages the Klang River as well as underground drainage experts,” he said.

He said this at the handing over ceremony of post-flood assistance to over 700 employees from several departments and agencies under the Selangor State Infrastructure Standing Committee at the Selangor State Secretariat Building here yesteryday.

The retreat programme is scheduled to be held on February 23 until 25 in Langkawi, Kedah.

The two-day torrential rain from December 17, 2021, had resulted in double the rainfall compared to the previous high of 180 millimetres and caused severe flooding in several locations in the state.

Following the incident, the state government had on December 21 announced the RM100 million allocation under the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) programme to help flood-hit families.

Apart from infrastructural recovery, the initiative also covers RM10,000 cash aid to the families of flood victims who perished in the incident. RM1,000 cash is also provided to the heads of flood victims’ families to help them restore their homes and cover the damages sustained from the incident.
