Cheaper onions available under Jualan Ehsan Prihatin Rakyat programme

SHAH ALAM, March 7 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has started selling onions at lower prices under its Jualan Ehsan Prihatin Rakyat programme.

The agency said on Facebook the onions are being sold at RM2.80 per kilogramme (kg) or RM24 for a bag of onion weighing 10 kg.

“The offer is available at Wisma PKPS and PKPS Lori Ehsan sale programme at selected venues,” it said.

Previously, state executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim has said the Jualan Prihatin Rakyat programme would offer daily necessities items such as chicken, eggs, beef and fish at affordable prices starting from February 27 and leading up to the Aidilfitri celebration.

He said the programme, held on Saturday and Sunday, is carried out in cooperation with Selangor Agro Market as well as PKPS and is a continuation of the Chicken and Egg Price Intervention programme launched by the Menteri Besar last month.

Izham said the authorities are targeting an estimated 10,000 chicken, 3,100kg of fresh beef, 6,200kg of mackerel and selayang fish, as well as 315,000 Grade B chicken eggs to be sold throughout the programme.

He said they are also considering adding several more daily necessities to the list, including cooking oil, should the programme receives encouraging response.
