SHAH ALAM, March 23 — The Ehsan Food Price Intervention Programme which was launched on February 7 has recorded a total sale of RM496,852.

State executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim said the amount derived from the sale of chicken and egg at the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) Wisma, Selangor Wholesale Market and during the Jualan Prihatin Rakyat programme which runs every weekend.

“Most of the sales were contributed by chicken with RM337,524 of sales recorded followed by eggs with RM132,000.

“Overall, Selangor citizens have managed to save around RM149,619 because the items are sold at a discounted price of up to 24 per cent during the programme,” he said when met after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PKPS and Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) at Wisma PKPS here yesterday.

The MoU calls for a strategic collaboration in implementing the price intervention programme, aiming to resolve food supply issues, specifically eggs leading up to the Aidilfitri celebration.

The agreement was signed by PKPS chief executive officer (CEO) Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi while PNSB was represented by its CEO Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim and witnessed by Izham.

In his speech at the event, Izham said the collaboration between both parties will help strengthen the food supply chain in Selangor.

“Even though we began with the sale of eggs, we will slowly expand the scope (to offer other items). In fact, more government-linked companies will take part in the programme either from the state or the Federal government.

“This collaboration is part of our commitments to benefit the people, especially for the low-income group (B40),” he said.

The food intervention programme which runs every weekend in 64 locations across the state aims to alleviate the peoples’ burden due to the rising cost of food items.

Apart from chicken and eggs, other products sold during the programme include fresh meat at RM35 per kilogramme, mackerel fish (RM8 per pack) and cooking oil.

As of March 14, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme has recorded a total sales amounting to RM180,000.
