New normal tourism plan to guarantee industry’s continuity post-pandemic

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, March 14 — The rehabilitation action plan centred around the safe travel and tourism concept will hopefully guarantee the industry’s continuity after being impacted by Covid-19.

The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, said he also hopes the plan will bring Selangor back as the choice tourism destination in the country and worldwide.

“The tourism industry is the most affected sector by the Covid-19 pandemic. Its recovery must be carried out immediately by introducing tourism activities with new norms,” said His Royal Highness.

The Sultan was speaking during the officiation of the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly earlier today.

His Royal Highness added that the formulated action plan would emphasise safety, digital transformation, sustainability, business continuity and tourism ecosystem services.

Last year, the 2022 Selangor Budget allocated RM114.6 million to restimulate the state tourism sector in a post-pandemic environment for a period of five years until 2025.

The initiative will encompass rehabilitation assistance grants for industry players and strengthen the Pusing Selangor Dulu and Splendid Selangor tourism campaigns.

In addition, the initiative will also see the preparation and implementation of the Selamat dan Sihat standard operating procedures, the organising of the Global Tourism Selangor Conference, and the development of tourism and crafts infrastructure.
