Sultan Sharafuddin: Graduates should maintain good relationship with UPM

SERDANG, March 19 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has called on Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) graduates to maintain a good relationship with their alma mater as their sign of gratitude to the university that has helped them to succeed.

Apart from contributing to the development of UPM students, Sultan Sharafuddin who is UPM chancellor said graduates can also help the university be on the right track in producing a knowledgeable generation.

“The slogan ‘Daripada Alumni kepada UPM’ (From Alumni to UPM) should be translated as one of the efforts to bring UPM to success,” he said at the 45th UPM convocation ceremony, here today.

A total of 6,142 graduates, comprising 484 recipients of the PhD, master’s degree (1,611), bachelor’s degree (3,564) and diploma (483) will receive their scrolls during the six-day convocation beginning today.

At the ceremony, Sultan Sharafuddin presented the Chancellor’s Gold Medal Award to Iskandar Zulkarnain Adamulhasza (Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours), Faculty of Engineering; the Royal Education Award (Bumiputera) to Eddy Irwan Sidek (Bachelor of Education in Agricultural Science), Faculty of Educational Studies; the Royal Education Award Non-Bumiputera) to N Vaishnavi (Bachelor Of Science In Mathematics With Honours) Faculty of Science; and the Alumni Gold Award to Siti Nursyamisa Masmos (Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development), Faculty of Educational Studies.

Sultan Sharafuddin also congratulated UPM on its 50th-anniversary which was celebrated last year, adding that he believed throughout the period, the university has accomplished many remarkable achievements.

“I hope UPM will continue to maintain its excellence for the next 50 years with a high spirit of solidarity among staff, students and the university alumni,” he said.
