Repair matching grants now open to one-star, two-star hotels — Motac

PUTRAJAYA, May 25 — The application for matching grants for the purpose of repairs for homestay and budget hotels is now open to hotels rated one-star and two-star by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac).

In a statement today, Motac said the decision was made to allow more hotel operators to participate in the government’s efforts to revive the country’s tourism industry affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the ministry, this provides equal opportunities and helps operators of budget hotels to repair their premises so that they can offer the best facilities to domestic as well as international tourists.

“The matching grants will benefit another 641 hotels, previously opened only to 648 hotels with orchid status. This brings the total number of budget hotels eligible to apply for this grant to 1,289,” read the statement.

It said the closing date for the application is on June 15.

Motac previously only offered the matching grants with an allocation of RM30 million to hotel operators who were given grades 1, 2 and 3 under the Orchid Grading Scheme introduced by the ministry.
