SHAH ALAM, June 24 (Bernama) — A total of 408 notices on various offences with compounds worth RM222,800 were issued by the Selangor Health Department (JKNS) in an integrated operation carried out in several areas in the state for two days, since Wednesday.

State Health director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said the operation was held to enforce the Food Act 1983 and the Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 2004 (PPKHT 2004).

He said the operation, which targeted food premises in Kajang, Bangi and their surrounding areas, involved 106 personnel of the department.

“For enforcement under Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, a total of 37 food premises were closed for  14 days and 283 notices were issued with compounds worth RM192,900.

“For the enforcement of PPKHT 2004, a total of 125 notices were issued with compounds worth RM 30,900 for various offences including smoking in eateries and failure to display the smoking ban signage on the premises,” he said in a statement today.

He said if the offender did not pay the compound within the stipulated time, court action would be taken.

“It is hoped that through this operation, it will be possible to increase public awareness on smoking offences in all non-smoking areas, especially in food premises and popular public spots as well as to ensure the cleanliness of food premises is at an optimal level,” he said.
