GOMBAK, June 28 — The Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) has distributed RM126,000 to 42 state constituencies to organise various activities for the community.

Its president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad said the allocation was an appreciation for the hard work done by its Pekawanis members in its various activities.

“They are free to use the fund on whatever activities they want to organise. In Sungai Tua, for example, I plan to hold a ‘gotong royong’ at the old folks’ home and if the place lacks some items, we will provide them.

“If this activity is successful, we will implement it in all state constituencies. Similarly, if activities in other state constituencies bring an impact, we will turn it into a programme for all state constituencies,” she said.

She said this when met Pekawanis Sungai Tua Mother’s Day celebration at RHR Hotel in Bandar Baru Selayang here yesterday.

Masdiana said the allocation is expected to be distributed in the near future.

Meanwhile, she said Pekawanis’s Ziarah Medik programme is expected to benefit 800 chronic patients this year.

She said the assistance is provided under two phases, with the first involving 38 state constituencies in the first six months of this year, and the second covering another 42 state constituencies for six months starting this August.

“We have completed the first phase of Ziarah Medik with RM2,500 distributed to each state constituency which is channelled to 10 chronic patients who received RM250 each.

“Following the good response from the first phase, we will continue with the second phase which also involves an allocation of RM2,500 for each state constituency. A total of RM200,000 has been allocated for the Ziarah Medik programme this year,” she said.

Last year, Pekawanis allocated RM100,000 to help chronic patients buy medicine and personal necessities.

The programme prioritises single mothers and persons with disabilities (OKU) from the low-income (B40) groups.
