Selangor Saring in Sekinchan features health talks by experts

SABAK BERNAM, June 5 — The Selangor Saring programme in Sekinchan today was held on a larger scale, offering its participants something extra.

Selangor Public Health Advisory Council committee member Dr Mohammad Farhan Rusli said the free health screening initiative organised by the state government had today featured health talks by experts.

“We provided a space for Selangor Mental Sihat (Sehat) and had medical experts involved, such as surgeons, eye specialists, obstetrics and gynaecologist and colorectal cancer specialists.

“The health talk was held not only for the public but also for the constituency team to convey accurate health information to the community,” he said when met after attending the programme at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Yoke Kuan in Sekinchan, here today.

Dr Mohammad Farhan said nearly 100 people participated in the programme as of 11am today.

He said even though the overall number is relatively small due to the long weekend, the participation from the local people was encouraging.

“When the programme first started, there were about 67 individuals. Now, we see that it has increased to more than 100 at the following locations. We are aiming to see an attendance of 500 people in rural areas.

“However, the goal is not to chase the high turnout but to create health awareness, the importance of health checks and that prevention is always better than cure,” he said.

The state government has allocated RM3.4 million for Selangor Saring, which kicked off on May 22, and is held across the state until September 4.

The initiative is expected to benefit up to 39,000 people, particularly those with a family history of illnesses, overweight individuals, or those leading unhealthy lifestyles.
