Team Selangor mobilised to Baling for house cleaning, distributing food baskets

SHAH ALAM, July 10 — Some 40 volunteers from Team Selangor headed to Kedah on Tuesday (July 5) to help flood victims in Baling clean their houses.

Its chief secretariat Syahaizel Keman said they also distributed 100 food baskets and personal hygiene kits to affected residents.

“We plan to send volunteers on buses, in addition to bringing cleaning equipment to facilitate this relief mission.

“We are dealing with the authorities (in Baling) on work to coordinate assistance. Hopefully, Team Selangor’s efforts will help to ease the victim’s burdens,” he told SelangorKini today.

On July 6, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari mobilised the Selangor Penyayang Mission Convoy involving individuals from various agencies, including Selangor Volunteers (Serve) members to Baling in assisting the post-flood work there.

The convoy brought 33 machines and 112 pieces of equipment for the relief operation, including four-wheel drives (4×4), Roll-on-Roll-Off (RoRo) vans, and tipper trucks.

Appliances include tree cutting machines, water barrels, high pressure water pumps, excavators, lamps and various other cleaning tools.

Nearly three hours of continuous heavy rainfall in Baling on July 4 caused Sungai Kupang’s water level of to overflow into the homes of nearby residents.

Three members of a family aged between 14 and 53, including a pregnant woman, perished after being swept away by currents in mudslides and other incidents.
