BALING, July 22 — Some 22 volunteers from Team Selangor have participated in Misi Selangor Penyayang (MSP) 2.0 relief mission to Baling, Kedah.
Its chief secretariat Syahaizel Keman said the team helped to distribute mattresses and pillows donated by the state government to flood victims in several villages.
“We help to distribute the related items to some 400 flood-affected residents. Some of them did not have vehicles, so we helped to bring the mattresses to their homes.
“In addition, Team Selangor also provided other necessities including diapers for adults and children, sanitary pads and disinfectant liquids, which were donated by individuals,” he said during the mission earlier today.
On July 6, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari flagged off MSP 1.0 which included 263 individuals from various state agencies and bodies, like members of Selangor Volunteers (Serve) to Baling for post-flood relief work.
MSP 1.0 also saw 40 Team Selangor volunteers tag along to help flood victims clean up their homes. The mission included 33 equipment and 112 tools, including four-wheel drives (4×4), vans and Roll-on-Roll-Off (RoRo) trucks and tipper trucks.
Other equipment include tree cutters, water barrels, high-pressure water pumps, excavators, lights and various cleaning tools.
Continuous heavy rain for almost three hours in Baling on July 4 resulted in Sungai Kupang’s water level overflowing into the homes of nearby residents.
Three members of a family, including a pregnant woman, perished after being swept away by the currents.
