KUALA SELANGOR, Aug 28 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has called on the people in continuing to unite and appreciate the nation’s independence, in conjunction with the 65th National Day celebration this year.

He said to mark National Day, people of multiple races and religions have been asked to be united in one spirit and one big consensus.

“I do not wish to speak of family this, family that…a family spoke of but differing in action. The Selangor government does not need to say we are a family, but its actions speak for themselves.

“For when we speak of independence and National Day as Malaysians, we get equal treatment and live collectively. There is no need to be fearful as a minority group since everything is guaranteed by the Constitution and rights in the country,” Amirudin said.

He was speaking at the Pakatan Harapan Indian Road Show programme, held at the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) here yesterday.

The state-level 65th National Day celebration is scheduled to take place at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, at 8pm on Tuesday (August 30).

An interesting variety of activities will be held, including performances by artists Erni Zakri and Black Hanifah, parades and marches, dances from all kinds of cultural backgrounds, choirs, silent marches, unarmed combat and fireworks displays.

The theme for Selangor’s National Day celebration this year is #KitaSelangorTeguhBersama, referring to the collective spirit and courage of the people when confronting challenges at various levels.

The theme is a reflection of the people of Selangor, who are always building one other up.
