By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 —  Each baby born in the state this year is eligible to receive benefits from the Iltizam Anak Selangor initiative that provides a saving of RM100 a year for five years.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme with an allocation of RM3 million, was introduced to replace the Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (Tawas) and aimed to benefit 30,000 newborn babies in the state.

He said each recipient would get a National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) Prime account and financing from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) in the future.

“We hope parents would also add some money into the savings as well. As once the fund has reached RM1,000, the children will get takaful protection, mutual benevolent (khairat kematian) and other additional initiatives,” he said in a video posted on Facebook yesterday.

Application for the programme was opened since August 1 and could be submitted online via anak.yawas.com.my. Among the conditions are the baby must be born this year in Selangor, a Malaysian citizen and resides in the state.

As for the parents, they must be residents and registered voters in Selangor as well as aged above 18.
