SHAH ALAM, Aug 3 — Individuals who commit environmental offences will face penalties ranging from RM10,000 to RM50,000 in fines and up to a year in prison.
State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said the legal team has carefully examined the enactment draft and is preparing to submit it to the Federal level.
“If the bill bulk waste management and public cleaning are passed, the court may impose a rehabilitation work order as punishment for violators.
“In addition, to make sure the laws are always updated, the local councils would regularly review the by-laws,” he said during the winding-up session of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, here on Monday.
Hee, who represented state executive councillor for local council Ng Sze Han, also touched on the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) projects in Jeram, Kuala Selangor, and Tanjung Dua Belas, Kuala Langat, which could generate more income.
He said that the method was widely utilised by other countries and that the development by the state subsidiary, Worldwide Holdings Berhad, had little impact on the environment.
The RS-1, tabled by Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on July 27, takes into account the implementation aspects of the comprehensive policies, projects and initiatives between the state and the Federal governments.
The Menteri Besar said Selangor’s efforts will not set aside the five-year planning under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), which is still ongoing and bringing an impact to the state.
He added that RS-1 is designed to deal with major global challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine War as well as the Cold War between China and the United States.
