Selangor committed to resolve legacy problems from previous administration

SHAH ALAM, Aug 3 — The Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led Selangor government remains committed towards solving all problems left behind by the Barisan Nasional (BN) since PH took over the state in 2008.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said many issues that it faced today were legacy problems and most needed to be remanaged by the state government.

He gave an example of the Akademi Bola Sepak Merah Kuning where the right to develop its training ground in Kelana Jaya was given to Umno cronies but the development was not completed.

“They gave an estimate in the tens of millions whereas the Public Works Department (PWD) estimation was RM6 million. Its value does not match the amount given,” he said during the winding-up session of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here on Tuesday (August 2).

Amirudin also elaborated on the issue of the abandoned Carlton Hotel in Section 13 here, which he said is partly owned by a contractor company appointed by the previous government.

“The building was not completed by its previous contractor in the old days. It is said later that there is a rescue contractor, yet it has a link to the same company that owns (Carlton Hotel) until 2026, which is 25 per cent of the shareholding.

“So we need to deal with all of these when we manage the legacy problem. Not all things can be solved right away to the end, once we start managing it there’s bound to be problems and obstacles,” he said.

The RS-1 which is the state’s five-year economic plan was tabled on July 27, was supported unanimously by state assemblymen on August 2 and approved by Speaker Ng Suee Lim.
