Selangor confident of winning over 40 gold medals in Sukma 2022

SHAH ALAM, Aug 30 — Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) is confident of garnering more than 40 gold medals in the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma).

Its executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said the target was set based on its earlier achievement of achieving 50 gold medals in the previous Sukma.

“The state government’s aim is only for 40 gold, 40 silver and 40 bronze. But we wanted more so we made an assessment of the athletes who can contribute (more) medals.

“Actually our aim is for Selangor to win more than 50 gold medals, as was achieved previously,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Selangor Contingent Camp for Sukma 2022, at the Grand Dorsett Hotel earlier today.

Mohamad Nizam also delivered messages to the 180 athletes involving boxing, athletics, rugby, cricket, hockey and several other sports.

Previously, MSNS had set a target of being among the top three by collecting 40 golds at the 20th Sukma organised from September 16 to September 24.

A total of 31 types of sports and 445 events will be organised for this year’s edition, which is being held in Klang Valley.
