Selangor rent-own scheme fulfils B40 need to own homes

SUNGAI BULOH, Aug 23 — The state government has introduced a home rental scheme to make it easier for low-income earners from the B40 category to own their own homes in the future.

State executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said the initiative, previously known as the Rent-to-Own Smart Scheme (2Stay), has since been rebranded as the Selangor Rent-Own Scheme.

“To seek out solutions on the housing financing issue, the state government has conducted several discussions with banks and financial institutions.

“As such, it is prepared to offer approximately 3,943 contra units, that will be acquired in stages from 2022 until 2030, and included in the Selangor Rent-Own Scheme,” she said.

Rodziah was speaking at the handover ceremony of housekeys for the Rumah SelangorKu initiative in Seri Kenari, Saujana Perdana, earlier today.

She added the scheme will offer homes at a selling price of no more than RM200,000 per unit, which indicates the concerns of the state government for the people.

“I am confident there are many more housing projects currently being developed and will be developed by industry players, particularly for affordable housing in Selangor,” Rodziah said.

Previously, the councillor was reported to have said as many as 3,000 Rumah Selangorku Idaman units are available under the Selangor Rent-Own Scheme, to assist those unable to buy homes to own one in the future.

On July 13, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said 130,545 affordable housing units have since been constructed by the state government to ensure that Selangor residents have comfortable homes.

He said approximately 78,132 houses in 31 projects have been built for Rumah Selangorku Idaman and 52,413 houses in 45 projects for the Rumah Selangorku Harapan initiative.

Both initiatives were carried out so the people of Selangor can own comfortable homes, as well as enable them to take advantage of the rent-to-own scheme.
