SHAH ALAM, August 3 — The Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting that began on July 25 until yesterday went smoothly with the participation of 28 state assemblymen from government and opposition in the debate session.

Speaker Ng Suee Lim said many state representatives had taken part in the debate on the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) motion that will set the state’s direction in the next five years.

He informed that seven state executive councillors including Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari took part in a three-day winding-up session since Thursday last week.

“The sitting this time takes a bit longer than usual as it involved a very important matter which is the tabling of the RS-1. Usually, a mid-term sitting only takes four days.

“The state assemblymen were also very active (in their participation) as usually a motion will be debated by five or six representatives but because the RS-1 has never been tabled, so they wanted to become part of history,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ng said a number of issues arose during the sitting as a result of some representatives’ failure to comply with the standing orders which were successfully controlled with no untoward incident.

“The sitting was also slightly interrupted when five individuals who are state executive councillors and state assemblymen tested positive for Covid-19. At the end of the session I advised all state representatives to remain vigilant as the Covid-19 virus is still out there,” he said.

Yesterday, Ng announced that the state assembly has passed the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) for a period of five years from 2021 to 2015, with support from assemblymen.

The plan, tabled by Amirudin on July 27, takes into account the implementation aspects of the comprehensive policies, projects and initiatives between the state and the Federal government.

He said Selangor’s efforts will not set aside the five-year planning under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) which is still ongoing and bringing an impact to the state.

Amirudin added that RS-1 is designed to deal with the major global challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine War as well as the Cold War between China and the United States.
