High tide phenomenon: 13 locations in Kuala Selangor at high risk

SHAH ALAM, Sept 1 — A total of 13 areas in Kuala Selangor have been identified at risk of flooding following the high tide phenomenon, which is expected to run for three days from September 9.

Sinar Harian reported Kuala Selangor District Disaster Committee chairman Mohd Raiz Radzuan as saying the high-risk locations include Ijok, Jeram, Tanjung Karang and Parit 4 Sekinchan.

He said the areas have a high potential to be flooded if there is continuous heavy rain during a high tide phenomenon.

“We and various other agencies are ready to face any eventuality during the current erratic weather conditions,” he told Sinar Harian when met during the Merdeka Ride and Fly Jalur Gemilang Flags programme at Puncak Alam in Kuala Selangor on August 31.

Mohd Raiz who is also Kuala Selangor district officer said all related committees including village chiefs will conduct 24-hours monitoring during the high tide phenomenon.

He said all their logistics and rescue assets as well facilities for relief centres have been put on standby.

According to him, six areas in Jeram were also deemed to be at high risk of flooding during the high tide phenomenon.

“The areas include Tambak Jawa, Pantai Remis, Pantai Jeram, Kampung Sungai Janggut, Kampung Sungai Sembilang and Pekan Sungai Buloh,” he said.

He added that 20 temporary relief centres (PPS) have been on standby in case there is a flood.

“I would like to advise the residents to always be prepared and follow the instructions by the authorities if they are instructed to evacuate their homes,” he said.
