PETALING JAYA, Sept 27 — Rhythmic ice-skating athlete Sree Abiraame B Chendren received a sponsorship worth RM30,000 from the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI) to help pursue her training for the 2030 Winter Olympic.

Sree, 10, admitted that the sponsorship could boost her spirit and help her to prepare for her training in South Korea next month.

“I will be training with The Skating Club Jewels for three years until 2025 and this sponsorship from MBI was one of the factors that helped me get there,” she said.

Sree told SelangorKini after receiving the sponsorship, which was handed over by MBI Chief Executive Officer Norita Mohd Sidek at Sunway Pyramid Hotel, here yesterday.

Her father B Chendren Balakrishnan also thanked the state government for its unwavering support to his only daughter since her exposure to the sport.

“Thank you to the Selangor government through MBI for sponsoring Sree Abiraame. Since she started her journey as an ice-skater in 2015, we have spent nearly RM1.4 million on sports expenses and the money came from various parties including the state government, private companies as well as our savings,” he said.

As of now, the Selangor athlete has managed to win over 50 gold medals in numerous local and international competitions.
