SHAH ALAM, Sept 9 — Selangor athletes who win medals in the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) will receive incentives from the state government, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the rewards had been made official and recorded in the State Executive Council Meeting (MMKN).

“Rewards will be given to any athletes who participate in Sukma and win a medal, the same goes for SEA Games and the Olympics, all the rewards have been set. For Sukma, the minimum rewards we have set are RM3,000 for gold, RM2,000 (silver) and RM1,000 (bronze).

“However, if (Selangor) becomes the overall champion, we can ‘decide’ on a special amount for the rewards because this has been done before in Sarawak where the reward amount was increased. Similarly, those who managed to break the national record, we have also prepared rewards for them,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after attending the flag handover ceremony to the Selangor Sukma contingent at the Selangor Youth and Sports Complex, here yesterday.

Amirudin also announced the launch of a QR code system to make it easier for people to know the latest position of Selangor in Sukma 2022.

He said the application can be accessed in all places to know the daily results for the state contingent.

“With this QR code, it (information) can be accessed anywhere to find out the latest updates of Sukma which will take place from September 16 to 24 September.

“In addition, people can also see the daily schedule and sports the Selangor contingent participates including the location of the competition,” he said.

The event also saw the handing over of the letter of appointments to state executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman to lead the Selangor contingent and Deputy State Secretary of Selangor State Government (Management) Mohamad Zahri Samingon as the deputy head of the contingent.

The 20th SUKMA which was supposed to take place in Johor from March 6 to 14, 2020 was postponed several times following the Covid-19 pandemic, before the National Sports Council decided to organise it in the Klang Valley from September 16 to 24.

A total of 31 types of sports will be contested, featuring 426 events, that will be held around Klang Valley, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan and Langkawi, Kedah.

Almost 9,000 athletes and officials from 15 competing contingents have confirmed their participation in Sukma this year.
