Kota Anggerik rep intends to form volunteer team to help during disaster

SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — The Kota Anggerik Community Service Centre plans to form a volunteer team to assist during a disaster.

Its state representative Mohd Najwan Halimi said the move was part of their early preparation should any unforeseen circumstances occur, including the big flood that hit the state last year.

“We have learned our lesson and we do not want to repeat the same mistakes. We do not want to look for volunteers or assistance when a disaster has happened.

“We want to make early preparations. For example, even before the flood occurs, we already have a team to help,” he said when launching the rebranding of Universiti Selangor (Unisel) blocks and main campus, here yesterday.

Najwan also hoped Unisel students, especially those on the Shah Alam campus would enrol in the volunteer team as they have had experience in handling situations during the flooding.

“Unisel students have a close relationship and network with the community, especially through their involvement during the flood last year. If they are interested in joining the volunteer team, we can work together in giving the best assistance to those in need,” he said.

During the flood incident last year, a total of 2,512 volunteers from Unisel were involved in assisting the flood victims.

Its Chancellor Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad Alhaj Raja Tun Uda Alhaj said the figures include 2,254 students and 258 employees who took part in 68 relief missions.
