By Zareef Muzammil

KUALA SELANGOR, Sept 8 — The storm victims in Kuala Selangor have expressed relief and thanks for the aid provided by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI.

Abdul Aziz Ismail, 59, said the RM1,000 aid can be used to purchase daily necessities as the kitchen roof of his house in Kampung Sawah Sempadan has since been repaired.

Alhamdulillah, MBI is the third to provide assistance, following the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS). I am highly grateful for their concern over storm victims, despite the incident having occurred some time back.

“I have already spent close to RM3,500 to replace the damaged kitchen roof, which includes labour costs, and now the house is in proper condition,” said the father of four who works as a building supervisor.

Abdul Aziz was among the 206 families that received the aid, presented by MBI corporate social responsibility department head Ahmad Azri Zainal and Permatang state assemblyman Rozana Zainal Abidin, at Dewan Dato’ Penggawa Permatang yesterday.

Fellow aid recipient Lizawati Musnan, 39, said she will keep the aid money for emergency use, seeing as how the of her house in Kampung Sawah Sempadan has already been fixed.

“I had to spend nearly RM5,000 to repair the kitchen roof and house room that was damaged in the storm. Fortunately, I had savings at the time, and my siblings also provided help.

“Nonetheless, I am grateful for and appreciate MBI’s commitment to helping all storm victims in Kuala Selangor,” said the mother of two.

For K. Geta, 38, she said the aid money will be used to buy furniture including wardrobes and televisions, as these were damaged in the incident.

“The storm that day resulted in the house roof being blown away by the wind. My mother, husband and one child had to stay at my brother’s house for a fortnight while the roof was being repaired and installed.

“Although the repairs are finished, some items have not yet been bought. So this aid money can be used to purchase those necessities,” said the resident of Kampung Parit 4, Sungai Burong.

On May 11, Tanjong Karang residents were affected by a storm sufficiently strong to blow off house roofs and fell the trees surrounding the residents’ homes.

The incident occurred in the early hours when most residents were sleeping, which caused them to awaken due to the sound of strong winds and rainwater entering their homes through the torn roofs.
