Public laud state govt’s move to provide life insurance scheme

SEPANG, Sept 1 — Selangor residents support the effort to provide group general insurance coverage with the premium cost fully borne by the state government and described it as the right move to help the people.

Housewife Inder Pall Kaur, 51, said that based on her 10 years of experience as a part-time insurance agent, many do not take insurance due to life constraints and lack of means.

“There, this new Selangor government’s initiative is very good and people need to take advantage of it, especially when it comes to death and accidents,” she told SelangorKini.

As for Azman Ngadni, 55, he found the initiative very interesting because having insurance is very beneficial in the event of any calamity.

“I used to have insurance when I was working but had to cancel it after quitting my job 10 years ago.

“So when the state government announced it will provide this insurance coverage, I will apply for it and I hope the application process will be easy,” he said.

On August 30, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that up to six million Selangor residents will be offered the Insurans Hayat Selangor (Insan), with the premium fully borne by the state government.

Through Insan, each covered individual will receive an RM10,000 payout for death, accident and injury according to type.

The initiative offers lifetime protection for all people in Selangor, aged from 30 days to 80 years old, who meet either one of the two conditions which are, that they are born in Selangor or a voter in Selangor.

Registration for the insurance scheme with an estimated total protection value of RM60 billion will be opened on October 1, 2022.
