GOMBAK, Sept 12 — The Insurans Hayat Selangor (Insan) general insurance scheme which is offered free to all state citizens will also provide coverage to workers in high-risk sectors, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the welfare of workers in e-hailing, construction or plantation sectors will be guaranteed through the free insurance scheme, with premiums fully borne by the state government.

“This is a sign of gratitude to the people and a show of commitment by the Selangor government to looking after its citizens. We will provide protection coverage to all people from the age of 30 days to 80 years.

“Young people who work in high-risk jobs are also protected. The same goes for housewives and residents of care centres. This is because of Pakatan Harapan (PH) determination to ensure that nobody is left behind,” he said during the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Ceramah Mega Rapat at Taman Melawati, Gombak here last night.

Amirudin who is also PKR vice-president said his administration continues to make improvements on all state schemes to ensure the people’s welfare stays protected.

On August 30, the Menteri Besar announced that six million people in Selangor would benefit from the insurance programme.

Offering coverage to those from 30 days old to the elderly at 80, Insan seeks to ease the burden of those facing a myriad of problems with a coverage of up to RM10,000 and an estimated total protection value of RM60 billion.

To qualify for protection under Insan, the recipient must either be born in Selangor or be a voter in the state.

Registration for Insan will be open from October 1.
