Five eco-parks in Selangor closed from Nov 1 due to monsoon season

SHAH ALAM, Oct 18 — Members of the public are not allowed to enter five eco-forests in Selangor from November 1 until January 31, says the Selangor State Forestry Department.

In a Facebook post, the agency said that the eco-parks include Sungai Tua Forest Eco Park (Taman Eko Rimba Sungai Tua), Sungai Tekala Forest Eco Park (Taman Eko Rimba Sungai Tekala), Sungai Sendat Forest Eco Park (Taman Eko Rimba Sungai Sendat), Gunung Nuang Forest Eco Park (Taman Eko Rimba Gunung Nuang) and Commonwealth Forest Eco Park (Taman Eko Rimba Komanwel).

The closure is part of the safety precautions to prevent water surge incidents that could result in mishaps and put visitors in danger.

Previously, the agency had issued a notice barring hiking activities at the permanent forest reserves in Selangor.

The forest reserves will be closed from November 1 until January 31, 2023, to avoid unwanted accidents and risks to happen.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecasted that continuous heavy downpours will hit the country in mid-November, which could cause a deluge to happen by the end of the month.

The weather is expected to leave a significant impact such as the risk of flood due to the active northeast monsoon occurring during the period.
