Late footballer Rajes’ next of kin eligible for Socso benefits

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — The widow and three children of Petaling Jaya City FC right-back Rajes Perumal, who died in an accident last Monday, are getting Social Security Organisation (Socso) benefits.

Socso chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said the widow, S. Komathy, 36, is eligible to receive Dependant’s Benefit (FOT) and Funeral Management Benefit (FPM) through the Employment Injury Scheme under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969, which provides protection to workers who met with accidents.

He said for funeral management, Socso had channelled RM2,000 into the account of the deceased’s widow and the next of kin would also receive RM3,555 every month.

“This monthly payment is a continuous payment. If anything happens to the widow, the benefit will continue to be distributed to the deceased’s children until they reach the age of 21,” Subahan said after visiting the Rajes family at their residence in Batu Caves here today.

Rajes was killed after his motorcycle crashed in Batu Muda.

The 37-year-old player is survived by his wife and three children, nine-year-old R. Thivyalini, seven-year-old R. Pirutheswar, and one-year-old R. Kavee Nilavan.

Komathy said the Socso benefits she received had come in handy for the family, especially her children, who are still in school.

“Losing my husband really affected my family … we lost someone we loved, and I have a lot of responsibilities because the children are still small,” said the housewife tearfully.
