LTdL 2022: Organiser changes Stage 7 route

LANGKAWI, Oct 17 — There is a change to the Stage 7 route of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) from Kuah to the top of Gunung Raya today due to bad weather.

A statement by the LTdL organiser, Human Voyage, said race commissaire Wayne Pomario agreed for the 90.8-kilometre (km) Stage 7 to be replaced with the Stage 8 route involving the Langkawi Loop.

“Following a meeting with the local authorities, including the Public Works Department (JKR), Langkawi District Office and Langkawi District Traffic Security Committee decided that the Stage 7 finish atop Gunung Raya be cancelled for fear of the safety of the riders, teams and public.

“The cancellation is following the incidents of landslides at four locations in Gunung Raya,” according to the statement issued last night.

The Civil Defence Force (APM) yesterday confirmed that the areas hit by floods included Kampung Teluk Yu, Kampung Kilim and Kampung Telaga Ayer Hangat in Ayer Hangat; Kampung Belanga Pecah in Kuah; Bukit Kemboja and Sungai Melaka in Padang Matsirat; and Empangan Padang Saga in Ulu Melaka.

The original route of Stage 7 had three sprint zones in Pelabuhan Telaga, Teluk Yu and Kuah before heading to the category three climb zone in Lebuh Langkawi and the3 category one climb to Gunung Raya.
