SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — Hulu Selangor and Hulu Langat in Selangor are expected to be hit with thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 9pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 5.20pm, the agency said similar weather conditions are also anticipated in most states in Malaysia.
“Inclement weather is anticipated for several areas namely Kedah (Kota Setar, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Penang (Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Machang, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu and Kemaman), and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Kuantan, Bera and Rompin).
“Other areas include Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin), Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi) as well as Sarawak (Samarahan, Sri Aman and Betong).
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
