By Zareef Muzammil

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 26 — State-owned company Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI has awarded RM10,000 to every Selangor Football Club (Selangor FC) player for their efforts in successfully advancing to the 2022 Malaysia Cup final.

A special incentive with a total value of RM229,500 was presented by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel last night.

Speaking to the press, he said the contribution will surely rejuvenate the spirits of the Red Giants squad, spurring them to reclaim the Cup which they last won in 2015.

InsyaAllah, should they succeed in garnering the Malaysia Cup, I will present RM50,000 to each player and official on duty throughout the championship.

“I hope this will motivate the players to work hard and win the Cup, which Selangor has not seen in quite a while,” Amirudin said.

Also in attendance at the presentation ceremony was MBI chief executive officer (CEO) Norita Mohd Sidek, Selangor FC CEO Johan Kamal Hamidon, and Selangor National Sports Council executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.

On her part, Norita said she expects the squad, managed by Tan Cheng Hoe, to put on best performance and achieve a sweet victory for the state.

“The match has been anticipated for some time, to protect Selangor’s dignity. If the team is successful, it would make things all the more sweeter and honourable,” she said.

In the second semi-final match on November 22, the Red Giants managed to advance forward with a 3 – 2 aggregate score, after defeating Terengganu FC 1 – 0 at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu.

The state football team is slated to face Johor Darul Ta’zim at Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil later tonight.
