BAM allow pro shuttlers to attend weekly matchplay sessions at ABM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 — The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have opened the doors for national professional shuttlers to attend weekly matchplay sessions at Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara here.

BAM said in a statement today that the sessions benefit both the national team and professional shuttlers as sparring sessions were critical and necessary components in their training.

These sessions would also help enhance the camaraderie between players and officials, especially when they represent the country in team competitions.

As proposed by BAM, the sessions will be held on Wednesday mornings, for singles and doubles players, as well as a second session for doubles shuttlers on Friday mornings.

The statement added that only national professional singles shuttlers ranked in the top 50 and doubles pairs ranked in the top 30 of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) would be eligible to attend the sessions while the top five Malaysian shuttlers might also be considered.

“Coaches will be allowed to accompany them on the court,” the statement read.

According to BAM, professional shuttlers who are keen must contact the respective coaching directors by the Monday of the week that they want to train at ABM.
